Four killed in Gopalganj road crash

Four people were killed and 20 others were injured after a bus overturned and fell into a canal on Gopalganj-Tungipara road in Malek Bazar area inTungipara upazila on Saturday.

Three of the deceased were identified as Krishna Kirtaniya, 32, son of Sumanto Kirtaniya of Dumuria village in Tungipara upazila, Sanjit Dhar, 40, of Batikamari village in Muksudpur upazila and van driver Akamuddin Mollah, 50, son of Momrez Mollah of Nilfa village in Tungipara upazila.

AFM Nasim, Officer-in-charge, Tungipara Police Station, said a passenger bus of Dola Paribahan (Dhaka Metro B-14-280) hailed from Nazirpur of Pirojpur district fell into a roadside canal at around 12pm leaving the four people dead on the spot.

At least 20 passengers were injured, the OC said.

Fire service, police and locals rescued 14 injured people and took them to Gopalganj 250-bed General Hospital.
