People pay tribute to women by lightening candle in Pabna

People at Bhangura Upazila in Pabna paid tribute to the women by taking vows to break the darkness (stereotype / social structure) and lighting candles on the occasion of International Women’s Day 2024.

Bangladesh Rural Economic Development (BRED) organized the event in collaboration with the ‘Expanding civic space through active CSO participation and strengthened governance system in Bangladesh (ECSAP) project’ that working for the community participation and strengthening local level organizations.

The event was supported by Amrai Pari Paribarik Nirjaton Jot (WE CAN Bangladesh) to prevent women’s violence, Manusher Jonno Foundation (MJF) and Christian Aid, with financial support from the European Union. The theme for International Women’s Day 2024 has been decided as ‘Invest in Women: Accelerate Progress’ according to the official website of the United Nations.

The discussion panel motivated the participants about saying investing in Bangladeshi women is accelerating progress. Female labor force participation has risen significantly, and educational attainment for girls has improved. These trends demonstrate the positive impact of focusing on women’s empowerment.
