A total of 24 candidates for the chairman post, 84 for reserved women seats and 250 for general members have submitted their nomination papers in the first phase of the upcoming Union Parishad elections in Chitalmari upazila in Bagerhat until March 18.
Out of the 24 chairman candidates, 07 have submitted their nomination papers with boat symbols and the remaining 18 have submitted their nomination papers as independent candidates to the Election Commission.
According to the election office sources, Md. Masud Sardar and former chairman Wahiduzzaman Panna, FM Tariqul Islam Biplob, Ali Amar Hossain Mithu and Md. Nur Islam in Barbarian Union No. 1 of the upazila. Md Badsha Mia with boat symbol and former chairman Sikder Matiar Rahman, Abu Jafar Md. Alamgir Hossain, Sheikh Farid and Md. Al Amin Sheikh from 2 no Kalata Union, Kazi Abu Shahin with boat symbol in No. 3 Hijla Union and former chairman Kazi Ajmir Ali, Shahjahan Sikder, Sabibar Sheikh and Jagdish Chandra Barai, Aliuzzaman Jewel Khalifa, the lone candidate with boat symbol of 4 no Shibpur Union, Sheikh Nizam Uddin with boat symbol of 5 no Chitalmari Sadar Union (nominated three times) and independent candidates for the post are Saheb Ali Faraji, Md. Rabiul Islam Khan, Md. Ibrahim Sardar, from 6 no Charbaniari Archana Devi Baral Jharna with boat symbol, Aditi Baral and former chairman Mukul Krishna Mandal, Samia Rahman Beauty with boat symbol( twice nominated) is lone candidate from 7 no Santospur Union.
For general members, there are 45 members in Barbaria Union No. 1, 36 in Kalatla Union No. 2, 34 in Hizla Union No. 3, 32 in Shibpur Union No. 4, 30 in Chitalmari Sadar Union No. 5, 31 in Charbaniari Union No. 6, and 42 in 7 no Santaspur Union. Reserved seats for the women, in Barbaria 11, Kalatla 13, Hijla 11, Shibpur 11, Chitalmari Sadar 11, Charbaniari 11 and Santoshpur 18 candidates submitted nomination papers for the post.
