Politically failed BNP vocal on sculpture: Dr Hasan

Information Minister Dr Hasan Mahmud on Thursday said BNP is now vocal on sculpture issue as they failed to face the government politically.

“There are many sculptures in Saudi Arabia, Iran and other Muslim states. The next generation of those who are against the freedom fighters and gave fotwa to them as ‘kafer’, are now giving statements against sculptures,” he said.

The minister made the comments while addressing the triennial conference of Jaypurhat district unit of Awami League.

Awami League General Secretary and Road Transport and Bridges Minister Obaidul Quader joined the conference through online as the chief guest.

AL Presidium Member Abdur Rahman inaugurated the conference with AL district unit president Advocate Samsul Alam Dudu, MP, in the chair.

Hasan, also AL joint general secretary, said BNP chief Begum Khaleda Zia told that Awami League could not construct the Padma Bridge. The last span of the Padma Bridge has been installed this noon and the
connection between the two sides has been established, he added.

The information minister said the country has been witnessing huge development under the leadership of Prime Minister Sheikh Hasina. But, BNP could not recognize it and now they are plotting new conspiracies, he said.

Jaypurhat constituency-2 lawmaker and Whip Abu Saeed Al Mahmud Swapan, AL health affairs secretary Dr Rokeya Sultana, AL Rajshahi divisional organization secretary SM Kamal Hossain and AL Bogura district unit general secretary Ragebul Hasan Ripu, among others, addressed the meeting.

AL district unit general secretary and Sadar Upazila Parishad chairman SM Solaiman Ali conducted it.
Later, in the second session of the conference, Abdur Rahman declared the name of Zila Parishad chairman Arifur Rahman Rocket as president and Jakir Hossain as general secretary of the district unit of AL.
