Khowab: Castle in the Air to be screened in int’l arena

Bangladeshi short film featuring the struggle of a jamdani weaver has received an official invitation from the forthcoming international short film festival titled ‘Short Shorts Film Festival & Asia 2024’.

‘Khowab: Castle in the Air’ is the most talked short film to be screened in the festival in Tokyo, Japan in a day from June 4 to 17, 2024.

It will participate in the Live-Action Asia International Competition segment of the festival scheduled to be held in different venues in Tokyo, Japan.

The festivle will feature over 200 films from different countries. The producer and lead actress of the film, Liza Asma Akhter, will participate in the event.

Produced under the banner of Dream Shadow, ‘Khowab: Castle in the Air’ is based on a story written by Liza Asma Akhter and directed by Hemanta Sadeeq. It depicts the life of a jamdani weaver.

Shawon Koiri wrote the screenplay of the film, which revolves around the life of a weaver named Kanchan, who does not want to sell his family handloom. However, his wife is expecting and they need to produce more sarees which is only possible by using a power loom.

Kanchan was making an expensive red jamdani saree for his wife as a sign of his love and affection towards his wife.

However, the mahajan takes the saree from him forcefully before their biggest religious festival, Durga puja and the story moves forward.

Ashish Khandokar and Liza Asma Akhter played the role of the weaver couple in the film.

‘It is indeed great news and achievement for us because Khowab will be screened at the festival. I hope it will leave an impression on the audience,’ said Liza Asma Akhter.
