Seminar on Sustainable Construction with Durable Concrete held in Sylhet

It is important to design and construct earthquake resistant buildings in earthquake prone areas like Sylhet. Emphasis should also be placed on sustainable construction and quality concrete. Dr. Rakib Ahsan, Professor of Engineering Department of Bangladesh University of Engineering and Technology (BUET) said these things in the seminar on Sustainable Construction with Durable Concrete of LafargeHolcim Bangladesh Limited.

The seminar was held at Kushiara International Convention Hall in South Surma, Sylhet on Monday night.

A Technical Seminar on Sustainable Construction and Sustainable Concrete was held by LafargeHolcim under the presentation of Engineer Masood Rana, Deputy Manager of LafargeHolcim.

Professor of Engineering Department of Bangladesh University of Engineering (BUET) Dr. Rakib Ahsan presented the keynote speech in the seminar.

At the time, he said, we have to be more aware to protect the environment. The damage to the environment caused by burning bricks should be stopped. Besides, the use of concrete instead of bricks should be increased. It is expected that the consumption of burnt bricks in the country will come down to zero within 2025.

Zafar Sadek, Regional Sales Manager gave a welcome speech at the seminar. Fakhruddin Mohammad Khan, head of technical service department of Lafarge Holcim, gave a speech about the company’s portfolio and product quality.

The seminar was attended by more than a hundred engineers and architects, Lafargeholcim officials from various public and private institutions. At the end of the seminar, certificates were awarded to the participating engineers and architects.
