A minor girl drowned in Nakla upazila of Sherpur district on Friday.
The deceased was identified as Umme Habiba Hiya (1.5), daughter of auto rickshaw puller Helal Uddin of Madhya Nakla (Dakatiakanda) village under Nakla union of the upazila.
Helal Uddin, fathers of three children, among those two sons and a daughter. He is a professional rickshaw puller.
Family sources said, Hiya’s father went to Nakla town in a rickshaw around morning and his mother was busy with house work. At this time, Umme Habiba Hiya fell into a pond.
Hiya’s parents said that since they could not find him in the morning, other members of the family kept looking for him in possible places. At one stage of the search, she was found floating in a pond and she was rescued unconscious and died on the way to the Nakla hospital.
Nakla UP chairman Anisur Rahman Shuja and district student league vice-president Abdur Rahman Mostafa confirmed the incident.
