Experts for expanding civic space through active CSO

Development experts on Sunday (January 28, 2024) underscored the expansion of civic space through active Civil Society Organization (CSO) participation and strengthened governance system to promote the rights of Dalits, ethnic and religious minorities, persons with disabilities, gender diverse communities and marginalized women in Bangladesh.

They made these remarks during the inception of ECSAP Project funded by the European Union through the Consortium Approach.

Christian Aid, Manusher Jonno Foundation and WE CAN Bangladesh are implementing the ECSAP Project on expanding public spaces and strengthening good Governance with Civil Society Participation.

Laila Jasmin Banu, Project Manager, Governance and Human Rights, Delegation of the European Union to Bangladesh was present at the inauguration ceremony. Nuzhat Jebin, Country Director- Christian Aid Bangladesh, Shaheen Anam, Executive Director, Manusher Jonno Foundation and Zinat Ara Haq, Chief Executive, WE CAN Bangladesh.

The project will work till January 2027 to make civil organizations working on social development of Bangladesh stronger and more self-reliant. The project will provide funding through third party financial supports mechanisms to local and national level civil society organizations representing marginalized communities, which will specifically work to promote the rights of Dalits, ethnic minorities and religious minorities, persons with disabilities, gender diverse communities and marginalized women.

Managers of the project, Musfequr Rahman, Sazzaddur Rahman, Jamilur Rahman and others were also present at this event. Like-minded organizations and representatives of civil society organizations at local and national levels representing marginalized communities play an important role in formulating project plans with their informed opinions.
