Bhairab, Kishoreganj, 4 December 2023:
An advocacy workshop has organized with Civil Society, government officials, local government representatives, and other duty bearers for proper implementation of laws relating to child marriage.
The workshop was arranged by World Concern Bangladesh on Monday (04 December 2023) under Ensure Protection & Justice through Integrated Approach (EPJIA) Project.
The objectives of the workshop were about proper implementation of laws relating to child marriage.
Md.Shofiqul Islam, Chairman of Shibpur Union Parishod has presided over the program attended by the chief guest Mahabubur Rahman Khan, Upazila Assistant Fisheries Officer of Bhairab Upazila, Mst: Shimul Akter, Union Member of Shibpur, Md: kala Miah, UP member of Shibpur, Samim Miah local leader of Shibupr,Child Protection Committee members, Mr. James Sunny Bairagee, Program Officer of Ensure Protection & Justice; and Nazim Sarkar, Branch Manager, Rural,Micro-credit,Program.
Md.Shofiqul Islam, Chairman of Shibpur Union Parishod presided over the program and said “Early marriage is become a disease in our society now a days. We should follow the laws relating to child marriage in Bangladesh to reduce child marriage. He added that misuse & addiction in mobile phone & drug our young generation has addicted on it & occurred many unexpected incidents like child marriage, carambola, trafficking etc. So, it is the best time to work in a team with GO & NGOs to stop child marriage. It is challenging but not impossible. He also requests all marriage registers & Imam to build awareness and say before prayer about the bad effects of child marriage.
Md. Mahabubur Rahman Khan, Upazila Assistant Fisheries Officer of Bhairab Upazila was the special guest said in his speech that child marriage is getting very common and serious issues in Bangladesh. Most of the mother who has victim of Child marriage are suffering from malnutrition. Like mother like son. He requests to follow the Government rules on Child marriage prevention law 2017. We also working with Upazila Administration to reduce child marriage from community level.”
Mr. James Sunny Bairagee, Program Officer of Ensure Protection & Justice through Integrated Approach (EPJIA) Project of World Concern, Bhairab, Kishoreganj facilitated the program. He said in his speech that “There are large number of child marriage affined every day from our country. Most of the children can’t fulfill their dream. The are dropouts from school before’18.He also said that, we all should follow government rules of our country about Child marriage.
He also said that poverty & lack of education are the main causes of child marriage. He also mentions about the punishment of child marriage should be ensure who are related & responsible for child marriage.
Nazim Sarkar, Branch Manager, Rural Micro-credit Program, said that “We should work together to stop child marriage from our society.”
“By proper implementation & Child marriage law, we can reduce child marriage from our country,” said the discussants from the Civil society, CPC & WC staffs at the event.
