New ‘School-feeding programme’ in 150 upazilas soon

Secretary of the Ministry of Primary and Mass Education Farid Ahmed today said the ‘School feeding programme’ will be launched in 150 upazilas of the country as soon as possible in a new format.

“Through this, a new horizon will be uncovered in the field of primary education and thus it will lead to building a developed and prosperous Bangladesh,” he added.

The secretary said this while addressing the ‘National Dissemination Workshop’ on the analysis of the ‘Findings and Factors of the National Student Assessment-2022’ organized by the Directorate of Primary Education at a city hotel as the chief guest, a press release said.

Highlighting the benefits of the new ‘School feeding programme’, Farid Ahmed said this time, children will be served nutritious biscuits along with different kinds of foods which attract them.

“These foods will play a special role in meeting the needs of children and building the body,” he added.

The secretary also said that by introducing the school feeding programme, dropouts in primary education will be prevented and school enrollment will increase.

Thus, he hoped, the launch of the new school feeding programme will reflect the government’s commitment to ensure quality primary education.

With Director General of Directorate of Primary Education Shah Rezwan Hayat in the chair, the workshop was addressed, among others, by Additional Secretary of Directorate of Primary Education Dilip Kumar Banik, UNICEF Representative in Bangladesh Sheldon Yett, Education Adviser of the British High Commission Mohammad Golam Kibria and Director of Directorate of Primary Education Shaheenur Shaheen Khan.
