87.44 pc pass SSC exams, 2,69,602 get GPA-5

On an average 87.44 percent of the examinees passed the Secondary School Certificate (SSC) and equivalent examinations-2022 held under 11 education boards of the country.

“A total of 19,94,137 examinees appeared in the SSC and equivalent examinations this year. Of them, 17,43,619 students passed the examinations,” Education Minister Dr Dipu Moni announced the results at a press briefing at International Mother Language Institute here.

A total of 2,69,602 students got the highest Grade Point Average (GPA-5) in the SSC and equivalent examinations which was1,83,340 last year, she added.

Among the GPA-5 holders this year, 1,21,156 are male while 1,48,446 are female students, Dipu Moni said.

A total of 2,33,763 students achieved GPA-5 under nine general education boards, while 15,457 students obtained the grade under the madrasah education board and the combined figure of GPA-5 achievers of technical SSC and Dakhil technical under the technical education board is 18,675.

The education minister said various initiatives taken by the government which include distributing textbooks for free to students, broadcasting classes of experts in television, widespread use of technology as educational tool have significant contribution to the good results.

Besides, some special measures were also taken for the students of flood affected areas while some other measures including online classes, assignments and continuing regular classes were also taken to make up the overall learning loss due to Covid-19 pandemic, she added.

Responding to a question, she said the government will provide necessary supports to the institutions which have been enlisted in zero pass rates this year.

This year’s SSC examination were delayed about seven months for the COVID-19 pandemic and the devastating floods that engulfed much of northeastern regions alongside several northern districts.

A total of 2,975 educational institutions achieved 100 percent pass rate in this year’s SSC and equivalent examinations, while the number was 5,494 last year.

Of those, 225 institutions are from Dhaka, 147 from Rajshahi, 211 from Cumilla, 513 from Jashore, 71 from Chattogram, 149 from Barishal, 27 from Sylhet, 87 from Dinajpur, 64 from Mymensingh while 1,305 are under Madrasah Board and 176 under Bangladesh Technical Education Board (BTEB).

Meanwhile, students from 50 schools and madrasahs under five education boards out of 11 boards failed to come out successful in this year’s SSC and equivalent examinations.

Two institutions are in Rajshahi education board , one in Jashore, five in Dinajpur, one in Mymensingh and 41 institutions are in Madrasah Education Board.

The number of schools and madrasahs with “zero results” was 18 last year.

Jashore Education Board has secured the top position among 11 education boards with 95.17 percent pass rate in the examination while Sylhet Education Board witnessed the lowest 78.82 percent pass rate.

The pass rate of Dhaka Board is 90.03 percent, while it is 85.88 percent in Rajshahi Board, 91.28 percent in Cumilla Board, 89.61 percent in Barishal Board, 89.02 percent in Mymensingh Board, 81.16 percent in Dinajpur Board, 87.53 percent in Chattogram Board, 78.82 percent in Sylhet Board, 82.22 percent in Madrasah Board and 89.55 percent in Technical Education Board.

The female students have outnumbered their male counterparts in terms of pass rate and GPA-5 in this year’s SSC or equivalent examinations.

A total of 8,73,573 female students passed the examinations with 87.71 percent success rate this year while the number of successful male students is 8,70,0,46 with 87.16 percent pass rate.

Among the GPA-5 holders this year, 1,48,446 are female while 1,21,156 are male students.

The pass rate of Madrasah Board in the Dakhil examination this year is 82.22 which were 93.22 last year while the pass rate of Technical Education Board is 82.22 this year.

Out of 363 overseas students appeared in the SSC examinations in eight foreign centres, 348 students have come out successful in the SSC examinations this year with 95.87 percent pass rate.
