Govt increases women participation to ensure women empowerment: Mannan

Planning Minister MA Mannan today said that the government is working tirelessly to ensure women empowerment by increasing participation at many sectors in the country.

“… Prime Minister Sheikh Hasina is taking timely steps by overcoming various obstacles to take the country’s development forward. Under her leadership, the government is working for the development of rural women. It is also working to increase quota (for women). The women’s participation in education has also increased in the country. Besides, the government has given priority to women in accepting any project,” he said.

The minister was addressing a pre-budget discussion titled ‘Recognition of Transition from Least Developed Country to Developing Country: Inclusion of Women’s Participation in Outlining the Future’ held at Anwara Begum-Munira Khan auditorium in city’s Segunbagicha area as the chief guest, a press release said.

Bangladesh Mahila Parishad organized the discussion with its president Dr Fauzia Moslem in the chair, the release added.

Chief Coordinator for Sustainable Development Goals (SDG) Affairs at the Prime Minister’s Office (PMO) Zuena Aziz, Prominent economist Selim Jahan, Dhaka University’s Department of Economics Professor and Chairman M M Akash and special correspondent of ‘The Financial Express’ Munima Sultana also spoke, among others, as special guests.
