‘Oxygen Bank’ inaugurated in Daudkandi

An ‘Oxygen Bank’ with 20 oxygen cylinders was inaugurated in Daudkandi upazila under Cumilla district to provide free oxygen service to Covid-19 patients in the area and its surrounding upazilas.

Senior Assistant Superintendent of Police (ASP) Md Jewel Rana (Daudkandi-Chandina circle), founder of humanitarian organization ‘Nirapad Foundation’, cooperated the initiative of launching the Oxygen Bank.

However Covid-19 infection and mortality rate have suddenly increased in the country due to the infection of Delta variant of Covid-19. There is also oxygen crisis in the hospitals. Initially, the ‘Oxygen Bank’ was launched consisting of four volunteers on Saturday noon (July 10) at Daudkandi circle office in Gauripur.

ASP Md Jewel Rana said, “In the first phase, we have inaugurated oxygen bank with 20 oxygen cylinders. It has four associates including an experienced surgeon. The oxygen bank service has four hotline numbers. We will provide 24 hours day and night oxygen service to corona patients in Daudkandi and its surrounding upazilas.”

Upazila Health & Family Planning Officer Md Shahidul Islam Shovon said, “Undoubtedly, we appreciate this great initiative of circle officer ASP Jewel Rana. Oxygen service to corona patient through this oxygen bank will be an example in this tough time.”

Among others, Daudkandi Press Club President Journalist Habibur Rahman, General Secretary Journalist Md Zakir Hossain Hazari, Journalist Omar Farooq Miaji, Journalist Alamgir Hossain, Poet Ali Ashraf, Ekhlas Munshi and SR Sumon were present on the occasion.
