Veteran journalist Syed Badrul Ahsan nominated for Samad Memorial Award

Veteran journalist and Editor-in-charge of The Asian Age Syed Badrul Ahsan has been nominated for the Press Institute Bangladesh (PIB)-Sohel Samad Memorial Award 2020.

The featured journalist has been designated for his great contribution to editorial column writing, a press release from PIB said on Thursday.

Syed Badrul Ahsan is a name that brings joy to his present and former colleagues and surely to his readers. He has a great soul that surpasses his professional skills.

To some colleagues- Syed Badrul Ahsan is a very good man, to some good learners- he is a great mentor, to some young journalists- he is an inspiration, to some literary lovers- his fingers that assemble words give joy to hearts, to some pedantic readers- Syed Badrul Ahsan is a great historian, to his students- Syed Badrul Ahsan is a great teacher.

If anyone looks for qualities that make a man good, he will surely find all the characteristics in Syed Badrul Ahsan. There’re many good things to know about Syed Badrul Ahsan. I guess, his students can tell those stories. 

The man with various qualities, Syed Badrul Ahsan started his career in The New Nation newspaper.

Later, he worked in The Morning Sun, The Bangladesh Observer, The Independent, The News Today, The Daily Star, The Observer and Dhaka Tribune.

From 1997 to 2000, Syed Badrul Ahsan also served as the press minister at the Bangladesh Embassy in London. He also taught in various government and private universities of the country including University of Dhaka.

The notable books by Syed Badrul Ahsan are– From Rebel to Founding Father: Sheikh Mujibur Rahman (2013), Glory and Despair: The Politics of Tajuddin Ahmed (2018), and History Makers in Our Times (2018).

The bright columnist Syed Badrul Ahsan is a regular writer in various foreign newspapers — Indian Express, Asian Affairs and South Asia Monitor.

Press Institute Bangladesh (PIB) Director General Zafar Wazed led a jury board that nominated Syed Badrul Ahsan for this award.

The other members of the jury board are– Dr Golam Rahman and Dr Mofijur Rahman, professors of Mass Communication and Journalism Department of Dhaka University, Tasmima Hossain, editor of The Daily Ittefaq.
