Illegal dams evicted from canal in Chitalmari

The Chitalmari Upazila Fisheries Department conducted an eviction drive in 10 km of the Haque Canal of Barbaria Union of Chitalmari Upazila.

The eviction drive was led by Saiyada Faizunnesa, the Upazila Nirbahi Officer ( UNO) of Chitalmari.

During the operation, about 15 illegal dams, 50-150 feet long, 10 kathas, innumerable net-pata and veshal nets were removed from the Haque Canal. At the time of operation, all the 10 km wide illegal dams, levees and illegal nets in the Haque Canal were removed so that the water flow increases and turns into a river.

According to the Fisheries Protection and Conservation Act, 1950, it is a criminal offense to obstruct the movement and flow of water through rivers, canals and beels through illegal dams, nets and nets.

Extension Officer Md. Tanvir Ahmed, Upazila Project Implementation Officer Apurba Das, Marine Fisheries Officer Md. Ashraful Islam, Fisheries Office Field Assistant Md. Ashraful Islam along with the law enforcement members were also present at the time of eviction drive.

In the public interest, this campaign will continue in all the canals and beels of Chitalmari upazila, Upazila Nirbahi Officer added.

It should be mentioned here that this is the largest eviction drive so far against the illegal dams, nets to protect the sweet water fishes and make smooth the flow of water by any UNO in Chitalmari.
