70pc people to be vaccinated by March next year: Maleque

Health and Family Welfare Minister Zahid Maleque on Saturday said 50 percent people will be brought under the vaccination coverage within December- January while 70 percent will be brought under the vaccination programme by March next year.

Lauding Prime Minister Sheikh Hasina’s initiatives to combat the spread of Covid-19, the health minister said, “Around 18,000 beds and 800 labs were set up across the country to treat and detect corona patients. All major hospitals were equipped with central oxygen facility.”

The Health Minister said this while attending a view exchange meeting with the Puja Udjapan Committees of Saturia and Manikganj Sadar Upazila as the chief guest.

Both infection and fatality rate have decreased sharply in recent weeks, Maleque said, adding all people should abide by the health guidelines to protect themselves from the lethal virus.

The function was attended, among others, by Deputy Commissioner Muhammad Abdul Latif, Superintendent of Police (SP) Golam Azad Khan, District Awami League Vice President Advocate Abdul Majid Photo, Joint Secretary AFM Sultanul Azam Khan Apel, Organizing Secretary Sudeb Saha and all the Union Parishad Chairmen of Saturia and Manikganj Sadar Upazila including the presidents and secretaries of Puja Udjapan Committees.

The government has allocated 500 kgs of rice among 176 Puja mandaps including Taka one thousand each for the Puja mandaps of Manikganj Sadar and Saturia Upazila of the district.
