Chitalmari police have arrested a Madrasa student in the upazila in Bagerhat district and sent him to jail for ‘insulting’ the Prime Minister on Facebook.
The arrestee was identified as Sheikh Russell, 20, son of Sheikh Bellal Hossain of Barashia village in Chitalmari Sadar Union and a student of Bashbaria Qawmia Madrasa.
Sources said recently Sheikh Russell posted abusive and offensive posts on social media against Prime Minister Sheikh Hasina.
Sheikh Haider Ali, president of Awami League, Ward 3 of Sadar Union, filed a case with the Chitalmari Police Station under the Digital Information Security Act. Case No. 6.
In this regard, Officer-in-Charge (OC) of Chitalmari Police Station AHM Kamruzzaman said that the accused Madrasa student Sheikh Russell was arrested on the basis of secret information under the Digital Information Security Act and sent to Bagerhat Jail.
