A race to get boat symbol of the ruling Awami League party has already started ahead of the upcoming Union Parishad (UP) election in Chitalmari upazila in Bagerhat.
The race for boat symbol has been seemingly started in between incumbent chairman and some young leaders of a clean image recently emerged from student politics.
The boat symbol aspirants of different levels of the Awami League are running from the grassroots of the party to the high command, from the tea shop to the highway and to the doorsteps of the voters.
Who is getting the boat symbol in a union or who is not getting these figures are being calculated everywhere in different shops, corners, stands, and hangouts? People are also discussing the failure and success of the present Chairmen in their last years of present tenure?
Their demand is to offer the boat symbol among the leaders and activists who have been imprisoned, tortured and sacrificed a lot in the past but deprived excluding the chairmen who misbehaved with the general public after getting the boat symbol more than once. 
The aspirants for the boat symbol of Awami League from Barbaria Union No 1 of the upazila are present chairman with the boat symbol Md. Masud Sardar, former UP chairman Wahiduzzaman Panna, founder president of the union Juba League Sikder Aslam Parvez, social worker Syed Jannat Ali, MA Khasru Ahmed and union Awami League general secretary Fakir Tariqul Islam.
The aspirants for the boat symbol of Awami League from Kalatala Union No 2 are the current chairman with the boat symbol Sikder Matiur Rahman, former chairman Md. Farid Ahmed, union Awami League president Md. Badsha Mia, general secretary MA Meskat and Syed Mohsin Alam.
From 3 No Hijla Union, the boat symbol aspiring candidates are the current chairman with the boat symbol is Kazi Ajmir Ali, former UP chairman and former acting president of Upazila Awami League Alhaj Md. Badsha Mia and former president of Union Chhatra League Kazi Abu Shahin.
From 4 No Shibpur Union, the boat symbol aspiring candidates are Wahiduzzaman Kaka Mia, the current chairman of the boat symbol, Waliuzzaman Jewel Khalifa, the general secretary of the union Awami League and Riazul Islam Riyad Munshi, the president of the Upazila Chhatra League.
The candidates for the boat symbol of Chitalmari Sadar Union No 5 are Alhaj Sheikh Nizam Uddin, the current chairman of the boat symbol, Sheikh Keramat Ali, the founding general secretary of upazila Awami Jubo League and presently joint general secretary of the Upazila Awami League, and Rajat Shuvro Roy.
So far it’s learnt that the lone Awami League’s boat symbol candidate in Charbaniyari Union No 6 is the current chairman of the boat symbol Archana Devi Baral Jharna, the wife of Chitalmari Upazila Parisad Chairman Ashok Kumar Baral. Till the date, no name of any other aspiring candidate name could be learnt from this union.
And the aspirants for the boat symbol of Awami League in Santoshpur Union No 7 are the current chairman of the boat symbol Beauty Akhter, general secretary of Union Awami League Harendranath Sikder and Vice President of Union Awami League Mallik Rezaul Karim.
But all are in the same opinion that they must work for those who will obtain the tickets from the party.
