Jasim Polli Mela opens Sunday in Faridpur

Jasim Polli Mela (village fair) is going to open on Sunday amid much fanfare and festivity in the district after four years.

Dr. Tawfiq-e-Elahi Chowdhury, power, energy and mineral resources affairs adviser to the Prime Minister, will inaugurate the fortnight long rural fair at 3:30 pm tomorrow at Jasim Uddayan of Ambikapur village of the town, source said here today.

Commemorating for the rural bard “Pollikabi Jasimuddin”, Faridpur district administration and Jasim Foundation have jointly organised the fair as a traditional way.

Cultural programmes including rendering of folk songs– Polli geeti, Jari, Kobi gaan, recitation, traditional dance are the part of the fair every afternoon which will start on Sunday (May 15) at Gobindapur village on the bank of river Kumar adjacent to the ancestral home and grave of the poet.

A total of 161 temporary stalls have been set up on the fair premises consisted with handicrafts and rural oriented cottage goods with a view to display and sale.
