Gopalganj Correspondent, 3 April 2022:

The aggrieved shop owners formed a human chain on Sunday protesting the eviction of 200 shops instead of 20 shops in government map on Gopalganj to Tekerhat highway in Baniarchar village in Jalirpar union under Muksudpur upazila.

The protesters complained that only 20 shops in the local Josna Market were supposed to be evicted according to the government map for road construction under Roads & Highway Department (RHD).

Bypassing the actual map, the authority is trying to evict 200 shops to save the Josna Market for an unknown reason, marked the shop owners who attended the human chain. They alleged that the evictions are being carried out “illegally”.

The participants of the human chain demanded that the illegal eviction of 200 shops should be stopped immediately and the eviction drive must follow the government rules and the map fixed by the RHD. The eviction drive must be according to the actual design, they demanded.

Participants in the human chain claimed that Josna Majumdar, the owner of Josna Market, was involved in the illegal eviction of 200 shops bypassing the actual street map.

Josna has occupied government land and marketed it, and to protect it, others have been evicting shops in legitimate places, the protesters demanded.

The local victim shop owners, who took part in the human chain demanded an investigation of the issue and take legal action against Josna Majumdar.

They also demanded immediate cessation of the illogical evictions drive.
