Members of Rapid Action Battalion (Rab) arrested Tamim Ahmed Khan Swapan, the accused of a case filed in connection with the death of a schoolgirl who died by suicide in Jamalpur’s Melandah upazila on Thursday after she was raped.
Rab arrested Swapan, a cable operator mechanic, from Char Shaha village around 2am early today and handed him over to police this noon, said Ashik Uzzaman, commanding officer of Rab-14 of Jamalpur Camp who led the raid.
In primary interrogation, Swapan (25) admitted his crime, the Rab official told our Mymensingh correspondent.
Yesterday, the girl’s father lodged a case with Melandah Police Station accusing Swapan.
Talking to this correspondent, the victim’s father said three classmates of the girl and a woman assisted Swapan to rape her daughter.
In the room where her body was found hanging from the ceiling, police found a note in which she wrote that Swapan raped her and warned her not to talk to anyone about it, according to police.
Forensic experts who conducted an autopsy on the girl’s body also found indication that she had been raped before the suicide.
