Kolkata Book Fair to begin Feb 28

The 45th edition of International Kolkata Book Fair 2022 will begin on February 28 in Central Park mela ground, Karunamoyee of Bidhannagar in Kolkata.

This year the focal theme country of the fair is Bangladesh. The
fair will end on March 13, according to a press release of Bangladesh Deputy High Commission, Kolkata received here today.

Kolkata Publishers’ and Book Sellers’ Guild arranged a press
conference and logo launching ceremony at Kolkata Press Club.

Dr Kamal Abdul Naser Chowdhury, Chief Coordinator of National Implementation Committee for Birth Centenary of Father of the Nation Bangabandhu Sheikh Mujibur Rahman, attended it as the chief guest.

Speaking at the press conference, the chief coordinator said this
year is very important for Bangladesh as the nation is celebrating
birth centenary of Bangabandhu and golden jubilee of the country’s independence.

“Our theme of this year’s book fair is Mujib Chirantan,” he said,
adding that on the basis of this theme their slogan is ‘In creativity, wisdom and humanity, Bangabandhu Sheikh Mujib’s Bangladesh’.

Dr Kamal Chowdhury said Bangladesh Pavilion of the fair will be set up signifying Bangabandhu’s historic March 7 speech.

Bangabandhu’s March 7 speech in 1971 was actually a call for
independence, a call for armed Liberation War as well as inspiration, he mentioned.

He said on October 30, 2017, the UNESCO recognized the historic speech by including it on the Memory of the World International Register.

The chief coordinator said Bangladesh will have as many as 50
government and private stalls. ‘Mujib Chirantan’ logo was launched on the occasion.

Bangladesh Deputy High Commissioner in Kolkata Toufique Hasan said Bangladesh has set up three gates in the fair and the three gates have been set up in the shape of three books written by Bangabandhu (Ausamapta Atmajiboni, Karagarer Rojnamcha and Amar Dekha Noya Chin).

Two days–March 3 and 4– will be observed as Bangladesh Day in the fair.

West Bengal Chief Minister Mamata Banerjee, Bangladesh State
Minister for Cultural Affairs KM Khalid and noted Bangladeshi writer Selina Hossain will attend the inaugural ceremony of the book fair.

Guild President Sudhanshu Sekhar Dey and General Secretary Tridib Kumar Chatterjee were present in the press conference among others.

After the press conference, Dr Kamal Chowdhury visited the
Bangabandhu Media Centre at the Kolkata Press Club.
