45 to vie for each seat in DU entry tests

At least 45 admission seekers will fight for each seat in the first year admission test under 2020-2021 academic session of Dhaka University, starting from October 1.

A total of 324,030 admission seekers have registered for 7,148 seats of four units of the admission tests this year where the number of aspirants were 276,522 against 7, 118 seats last year.

The tests will be held in Dhaka and seven other public universities in different divisional cities across the country, DU Vice-Chancellor Dr Md Akhtaruzzaman told a virtual press conference on Wednesday.

All the admission test centres will be brought under strict surveillance to prevent any forgery this year, said Akhtaruzzaman, adding that “We have taken all the preparations to hold the admission tests smoothly and ensure participation of all students.”

The admission tests will begin on October 1 (Friday) with the entry test for ‘Ka’ unit while the test of Kha unit will take place on October 2 (Saturday) and ‘Cha’ unit entry test (General Knowledge) on October 9 (Saturday).

The admission test for the “Ga” unit will take place on October 22 (Friday) and the “Gha” unit on October 23 (Saturday).

This year, among the 324,030 applicants, 117,956 will vie for 1,815 seats in Ka-unit (Science group) while 47,632 for 2,378 seats in Kha-unit (Humanities group), 27,347 for 1,250 seats in Ga-unit (Commerce group), 115,881 for 1,570 seats in Gha-unit (Combined group) and 15,496 for 135 seats
in Cha-unit.

Calculators, mobile phones and any kind of mobile communication devices are prohibited in the exam hall and mobile courts would be on duty during the examinations.

Earlier, the entrance tests were scheduled to take place on 31 July which was rescheduled later, as the government had announced a 14-day strict lockdown after Eid-ul-Adha.

The admission tests will be organised in four phases. For engineering, agricultural and general universities, the tests will be held in three phases, while BUET, Dhaka, Jahangirnagar, Rajshahi and Chattogram Universities will hold the tests separately.
