Tea workers get cash assistance, houses in Barlekha

The government has distributed about Taka 94 lakh among 1,879 tea workers at Barlekha upazlia under the Tea Workers Livelihood Improvement Programme.

Each tea worker received Taka 5,000 as cash assistance under the programme being implemented by the Social Welfare Department.

Environment, Forest and Climate Change Minister Md Shahab Uddin, as the chief guest, distributed the cash assistance among the tea workers at a function held at Barlekha Upazila Parishad auditorium.

Besides, he handed over the keys of newly built houses, constructed spending Taka Taka 68 lakh, among 17 tea workers’ families, a ministry press release said.

At another function held at Barlekha upazila, Shahab Uddin laid the foundation stone of a Taka 1.03-crore academic building of Nari Shikkha Academy Degree College and inaugurated a flower garden there on the occasion of the birth centenary of Father of the Nation Bangabandhu Sheikh Mujibur Rahman.

Acting general secretary of Barlekha Upazila Awami League Rafiqul Islam Sundar, Barlekha municipality mayor Abu Imam Md Kamran Chowdhury, college principal AKM Helal Uddin and local AL leader Kabiruzzaman Chowdhury, among others, were present at the meeting with Barlekha upazila nirbahi officer Khandaker Mudassir Bin Ali in the chair.
