ICVGD project started in Chitalmari

ICVGD project has been started for the empowerment of 1,100 women in the Chitalmari Upazila of Bagerhat Dstrict. Speakers, at the project briefing meeting held at Chitalmari on Monday, said the work has been started in 64 upazilas of 64 districts of the country through the Department of Women’s Affairs.

The families of VGD card holders will be developed through this project. The meeting was attended by all UP secretaries and upazila level government officials, journalists and beneficiaries.

Upazila Nirbahi Officer (UNO) Md. Liton Ali presided over the project briefing meeting held on Monday.

The speakers also said that the second phase of the ‘Investment Component for Vulnerable Group Development (ICVGD)’ project will continue till December, 2022. The project is being implemented by the Department of Women’s Affairs in collaboration with Uttaran, a non-governmental organization(NGO) funded by the World Food Program (WFP).

Upazila Parishad Chairman Ashok Kumar Baral was the Chief Guest at the project briefing meeting. They officially inaugurated the project providing with ICVGD cards to five women at the event.

Hafizur Rahman, Upazila Women’s Affairs Officer, delivered the welcome address at the meeting. Upazila Social Service Officer Abu Musa, Upazila Secondary Education Officer Mofizur Rahman and others participated in the open discussion meeting.

Khandaker Yasin, Program Manager, ICVGD Project Passage, conducted the meeting and discussed the goals, objectives of the project and the role and technical issues of the project stakeholders.

Khandaker Yasin said that under this project, one lakh families holding VGD cards in 64 upazilas of Bangladesh will be given multi-faceted training for income generating activities including cash so that their standard of living may improve. Families have been selected with the predominance of women. One thousand 100 VGD card holders of Chitalmari Upazila will get assistance from this project.
