Hefazat Ameer Junaid Babunagari passes away

Hefazat-e-Islam Bangladesh Ameer Junaid Babunagari passed away at a local hospital this noon.

He died around 12:30 pm at city’s CSCR hospital at the age of 68, Hefazat spokesperson Munir Ahmed confirmed the matter.

Babunagari fell seriously sick on Wednesday evening. He was taken to hospital around 11am after his physical condition deteriorated.

He was suffering from various old-age complications including diabetes.

Babunagari left behind his wife, a son, six daughters and a host of relatives and followers to mourn his death.

Hefazat-e-Islam’s spokesperson Mir Idris said the namaz-e-janaza of Babungari will be held at 8:30 pm on the premises of Hathazari Moinul Islam Madrasa.

He will be buried at family graveyard beside Babunagar Madrasa premises under Fatikchari upazila tonight.

Babunagari was born in 1953 in Babunagar village of Fatikchhari upazila of the district.

When Hefajat-e-Islam Bangladesh was formed in 2010, he became its secretary general.

Babunagari was elected the new Amir of Hefajat-e-Islam Bangladesh on November 15, 2020, following the demise of Hefajat Ameer Shah Ahmad Shafi in September, 2020.
