Md. Kamruzzaman Khan Picklu, Chitalmari, Bagerhat:

On Saturday (August 7) morning, like elsewhere of the country, mass corona vaccination was commenced in every union of the upazila.

The vaccination program ran from 9 am to 3 pm. The Upazila Health Department said that anyone over the age of 25 could actually get vaccinated with a national identity card.

Despite the rain that started in the morning, people of different ages spontaneously came to the centers to get vaccinated. The overflowing crowd of women at each center was eye-catching. Ordinary people wete happy to get their desired vaccine easily.

Chitalmari Upazila Health and Family Planning Officer Mamun Hasan said vaccination started in 21 booths in 7 centers of 7 unions of the upazila and 600 vaccines would be provided in each center, he said. One day activities at the union level are being conducted experimentally. By implementing this, we hope we will be able to identify the obstacles to vaccination, he added. Vaccination activities at ward level will start again from August 14.

Chitalmari Upazila Nirbahi Officer (UNO) Md. Liton Ali said, “We have arranged for vaccinations at the convenient places in each union.” Members of the village police and volunteer teams are in charge of maintaining discipline in conducting the vaccination activities. District and upazila administration officials visited the vaccination centers, he added.
