167 homeless families get houses in Sherpur

Marking the Mujib Barsha, 167 landless families in Sherpur district received new houses on Sunday. Each of the families got houses with 2 decimal lands. With the slogan “Ashrayaner Odhikar Sheikh Hasinar Upohar” (right to housing is a gift from Sheikh Hasina) the houses have been built for homeless under Ashrayan Project.

The landless and homeless families of Nakla upazila of Sherpur got gift houses of Prime Minister Sheikh Hasina. Of these, 50 are from Nalitabari upazila, 42 from Nakla upazila, 30 from Sherpur Sadar upazila, 25 from Jhenaigati upazila and 20 from Shreebardi upazila.

They have got houses as part of Prime Minister Sheikh Hasina’s Mujib Year gift under the second phase of Ashrayan project. The Prime Minister Sheikh Hasina inaugurated the second phase of the project to give houses along with 334 decimal of land for free via video conference on the day.

After the inauguration, the keys of the houses, necessary documents of the house land (documents, namazari, rejection) and certificates were handed over to the beneficiaries through a separate ceremony in each upazila.

On the occasion, a function was organized at Nakla Upazila Parishad auditorium on Sunday morning. The keys including land and house ownership documents were handed over to 42 families at the Nakla Upazila Parishad auditorium on Sunday morning. Upazila Nirbahi Officer (UNO) Zahidur Rahman presided over the function while Upazila Parishad Chairman Shah Md Burhan Uddin was present as the chief guest.

Upazila Awami League General Secretary FF Shafiqul Islam Zinnah, Upazila Parishad Vice Chairman Mohammad Saroar Alam Talukder, Assistant Commissioner (Land) and Executive Magistrate Kawser Ahammed were present as special guests.

Mushfiqur Rahman Officer in Charge (OC) of Nakla police station, Project Implementation Officer (PIO) Md Jahangir Alam, Vice President of District AL and Chairman of Charashtadhar UP FF Golam Rabbani, Organizing Secretary of Upazila AL and Chairman of Urfa UP Rezaul Haque Hira, Publicity and Publication Secretary Abdur Rashid Sarkar, Convener of Upazila KL Alamgir Azad, Convener of Upazila Awami JL Rafiqul Islam Sohel, Joint Convener FM Kamrul Alam Ranju, General Secretary of Upazila Sramik League Shyamal Chandra Sutradhar, UP Chairman Saju Saeed Siddiqui, Badruzzaman Baddi, and Shamsur Rahman Abul, Upazila Secondary Education Officer Abdur Rashid, Upazila Youth Development Officer Maqbool Hossain, Livestock Officer Dr Md Abdul Ahad, Upazila Food Controller Lutfar Rahman, Upazila Agriculture Officer Agriculturist Abdul Wadud, Upazila Engineer Arefin Parvez, Women’s Affairs Officer Rumana Yasmin, Upazila Public Health Sub Assistant Engineer Rumman Ara Jannat, Upazila Acting Information Officer Symun Shahnaz, Upazila Cooperative Officer Shahbaz Hossain and officer of different office, leaders of AL, JL and KL, local journalists and beneficiary family members of the upazila were present.

Upazila Project Implementation Officer (PIO) Md Jahangir Alam said that, the semi-finished one-storey house of thinset, designed for each family, will have a two-bed drawing room, veranda, toilet, kitchen and other necessary facilities suitable for a family to live in. The project cost for the construction of each house has been Tk 190,000. He also said, in January this year, the Nakla Upazila administration formally handed over the documents of houses and land to 58 homeless and landless beneficiary families of the upazila built on the first phase allotment on behalf of Prime Minister Sheikh Hasina. The project cost for the construction of each house has been Tk 171,000, he added.

Upazila Nirbahi Officer (UNO) Zahidur Rahman said these houses were handed over to 100 landless and homeless families of the upazila on the occasion of the birth centenary of Father of the Bengali Nation Bangabandhu Sheikh Mujibur Rahman as part of a gift from Prime Minister Sheikh Hasina. The construction work has been completed under the supervision of upazila administration, political leaders, PIO Jahangir Alam and local UP chairman concerned, UNO added.
