Md. Kamruzzaman Khan Picklu, Chitalmari, Bagerhat:

Allegation of reoccupying school land has been raised against a man whose father donated the land to Charbaniyari Uttarpara Government Primary School in Chitalmari in Bagerhat.

Local sources said that 1.5 bigha land of Charbaniari Uttarpara Government Primary School in Chitalmari Upazila occupied by the school authority for a long time. Meanwhile, Ashutosh Barai, who lives next to the school, started constructing a three-story building on the land.

Anadi Basu, son of the former headmaster of the school Manoranjan Kumar Basu, said “The school authorities occupied one and a half bighas of land for a long time and the school authority have legal documents of the land but the people next door are enjoying land right now. A man named Ashutosh Barai started constructing a building at that land of the school.”

The incumbent Headmaster of the school Ramen Roy remained silent about the reoccupation of the land but confirmed that they are processing to file a complaint.

Talking to Ashutosh Barai about his reoccupation of the land his father donated to the school, Ashutosh said “His father had donated the property in the name of the school but now the place has been recorded in my name. According to records, I’m constructing a building there.”

The school’s president, Nripen Mandal, said he had just been appointed as the president of the school committee. “Since the previous president and headmaster did not take any steps to save the school premises, this situation has arisen.”

Blaming the school authority’s negligence about protecting the school land, local people demanded to rescue the school premises after investigating the matter.

Upazila Education Officer Aminul Islam said he had received a verbal complaint in this regard. “I’ll take legal action to recover the eviction of the school once I got a written complaint.”
