Safe Motherhood Day observed in Sherpur

Awareness procession and brief discussion meeting was held in Nakla upazila of Sherpur district on the occasion of Safe Motherhood Day-2021 by keeping physical distance and following health rules as per the instructions of the government on Friday.

With the slogan “Take maternity services during coronation, prevent maternal and child mortality”, Upazila Health and F.P Officer (UHFPO) Dr Mohammad Golam Mostafa led the procession. The procession started from the Upazila Health Complex (UHC) premises, procession went around the main roads of the Nakal town and ended at the hospital premises.

Later, a brief discussion meeting was held in the auditorium of the Nakla UHC. Upazila health and F.P officer Dr Mohammad Golam Mostafa presided over the meeting. UHC Residential Medical Officer (RMO) Dr AKM Nazmus Shakib, medical officer Dr Abdul Wadud, assistant surgeon Dr Tanzina Mahbub, medical officer Maliha Nujhat and others were spoke on the profram.

Health Inspector (HI) Rafiqul Islam, MTEPI Abdur Rahim, Senatorial Inspector (SI) Hasan Ferdous Alam, Medical Technologist Abu Kausar Bidyut, Joint Secretary of Nakla Press Club Delwar Hossain, Finance Secretary Abdullah Al Amin, HIs, SACMOs, AHIs, FPIs, FWBs, FWAs, HAs, nurses and other staff of Nakla UHC were present.

Speakers said that even in the age of advancement of knowledge and science, many women have to die while becoming mothers. Many mothers in this country suffer from malnutrition and anemia, which is one of the leading causes of maternal mortality.

In addition, many mothers die as a result of lack of awareness about reproductive health, lack of necessary health care during pregnancy and childbirth by incompetent midwives. Special services should be provided to the mothers during pregnancy without neglecting their physical and mental care, they added.
