Retired army member killed in road accident in Chitalmari on Monday.
The accident took place at around 12 noon on Monday (May 24) when a truck heading to Chitalmari crushed the army member from behind in Barbagh area of Chitalmari upazila on the Bagerhat-Patgati road.
Police seized the truck in the incident. However, the driver and his accomplice managed to escape. The deceased was identified as Ilias Mollah, son of Gonjar Mollah of Goranalua village under Chitalmari Upazila. He retired as Lance Corporal of the Army.
Md. Ilias Mollah was a member candidate of Ward No. 2 of Shibpur Union No. 4 in the postponed Union Parishad election this time.
Chitalmari Thana Officer-in-Charge (OC) A.H.M. Kamruzzaman Khan said retired Army member Ilias Mollah, 55, was killed on the spot when the truck overturned. We have recovered the body of the deceased. “I also seized the truck,” he said.
