A court on Tuesday sent Prothom Alo’s senior reporter Rozina Islam to jail after rejecting a police prayer seeking her to be remanded in their custody for five days alongside her bail petition, after her arrest under Official Secrets Act.

Dhaka Metropolitan Magistrate Mohammad Jasim passed the order, scrapping the police plea and set Thursday for holding a hearing on her bail petition, reports BSS.

Deputy Secretary of Health Services Division Dr Md Shibbir Ahmed Osmani filed the case against Rozina with Shahbagh Police Station on May 17 night.

Rozina was detained at the health ministry for allegedly taking a photo of a document through her cell phone without permission and later was handed over to police.

Police said she was under their custody overnight at Shahbagh Police Station and produced before the court, adding later she was sent to Kashimpur Central Jail on the outskirts of the capital in line with the court order.

“The incident is unexpected,” Health Minister Zahid Maleque told newsmen, adding necessary steps would be taken to this end after proper investigation.

Health Ministry’s Public Relations Officer Maidul Islam Prodhan said Rozina was also taking away some documents when the senior ministry officials challenged her and later called the female police.
