COVID-19: Tourists ban put to Sundarbans, Khanjahan Shrine

Due to the sudden increase of coronavirus transmission and record cases on Friday, tourists entry to the world heritage site of Hazrat Khanjahan’s (R) immortal creation Bagerhat Satgombuj Mosque, Museum and Hazrat Khanjahan’s Mazar Sharif including entry to the largest mangrove Sundarbans were banned on Friday.

The tourist ban to the spots will be effected from Friday to April 15, said the Sundarbans Division and Bagerhat Tourist Police.

Initially, tourists will not be allowed to visit these two tourist spots till April 15 on the instructions of the government.

On the other hand, Divisional Forest Officer (DFO) Muhammad Belayet Hossain of Bagerhat East Sundarbans Division said in the evening that Department of Forests has directed to stop all tourist activities in the entire Sundarbans including Karamjal, Harbaria, Katka-Kachikhali, Hiron Point, Dubla & Tiger Point.

Confirming that he had received such instructions from the Forest Department on Friday evening, the forest official added that from Saturday (March 3), no domestic or foreign tourists would be allowed to enter the entire Sundarbans. The domestic and foreign tourists who are already in the Sundarbans will be brought back from the Sundarbans as soon as possible.
