Md. Kamruzzaman Khan Picklu, Bagerhat:

The district administration has started a clean-up drive in Bagerhat on Tuesday ahead of the birth centenary of Father of the Nation Bangabandhu Sheikh Mujibur Rahman on Wednesday and the Golden Jubilee of Bangladesh’s Independence on March 26.

Deputy Commissioner (DC) ANM Faizul Haque inaugurated the clean-up operation from the central Shaheed Minar in Bagerhat town at 7am on Tuesday (March 16).

The Deputy Commissioner(DC) himself swept the Shaheed Minar, the Shaheed Badhabhumi Memorial in Dakbanglo and the garbage lying on the road with a broom.

At that time, district administration officials, employees, school teachers, professionals and people’s representatives joined him in cleaning with brooms. They cleaned the garbage lying on different roads of the town for about an hour.

Among others Additional Deputy Commissioner(ADC) of Bagerhat (overall), Rizaul Karim, Additional Deputy Commissioner (Revenue), Shahinuzzaman, Bagerhat Sadar Upazila Nirbahi Officer(UNO) Mohammad Mushabberul Islam, Bagerhat Sadar Upazila Parishad Women Vice Chairman Rizia Parveen, Bagerhat Foundation General Secretary Ahad Uddin Haider and other administration officials.

Bagerhat Deputy Commissioner (DC) ANM Faizul Haque said, “We’ve started a symbolic clean-up program on March 17, the birthday of Father of the Nation Bangabandhu Sheikh Mujibur Rahman and the Golden Jubilee of Independence.”

“The reason for calling this activity is symbolic in the sense that it is seen that we clean the Badhabhumi on March 25, clean the Central Shaheed Minar before February 21, and clean the National Memorial before December 16. We have just started from here so that other can follow this and be inspired to keep clean their surroundings,” he added.

He further said, the activities that I started today in Bagerhat will be conducted regularly. I would like to tell the people of Bagerhat that from now on you will see our activities in different neighborhoods 2-1 days a week. From now on I will do a routine (roster).

The scouts, students and teachers of different schools and colleges of the town will conduct one day cleaning work in different important places like the town’s Badhabhumi, Shaheed Minar and Liberation War Memorial. If we can do this regularly, the respect we show to the martyrs will be fulfilled in a real sense.
