A total of 62 candidates including six women from six unions on Friday applied to Chitalmari Upazila Awami League for its nominations for the upcoming Union Parishad elections in Chitalmari upazila Bagerhat district.
In this regard, General Secretary of Upazila Awami League Piyush Kanti Roy said as per the decision of Upazila and District Awami League, a panel list of candidates for potential chairmen will be sent to the Nomination Board at the scheduled time.
Earlier on March 3, the Election Commission has announced the election schedule of 7 unions of Chitalmari in Bagerhat as elsewhere in 371 unions of 20 districts in the country.
The (EC) Secretary Md Humayun Kabir announced the schedule after the 77th commission meeting at the Election Building.
According to the schedule, the last date for submission of nomination papers is March 18, selection of nomination papers is March 19, withdrawal of nomination papers is March 24, election is April 11.
According to the Chitalmari Election Office, the first phase of the election will be held on April 11 in 7 unions of the upazila. The total number of polling stations in the union is 64, polling booths are 337, male voters are 60,901, female voters are 56,454 and total voters are 1,17,355.
In this regard, Chitalmari Upazila Election Office source said that the schedule has been announced nationally. Proposals of 3 returning officers have been sent for 7 unions of Chitalmari. If the Returning Officer is appointed, the schedule will be announced locally.
