Community leaders urged to work in raising awareness on SRHR in Rangamati

Speakers on Monday at a program in Kaptai Upazila of Rangamati urged community leaders to come forward and raise community-level awareness about Sexual Reproductive Health & Rights (SRHR).

They made this call at the event titled “Our Lives, Our Health, Our Futures; Empowering Adolescent Girls and Young Women in Chittagong Hill Tracts to Live with Dignity and Without Violence” arranged by Holl Flower.

The meeting was organized with the participation of the community, traditional, religious leaders, union members, social elite persons and representatives of Girls Club to address restrictive social norms to young women and girls about SRHR and safety.

A total of 26 persons– male 16, female 9, attended the program at the Office of Headman, Raykhali Union, Kaptai Upazila, Rangamati.

Attending the meeting as the special guest, Ms. Singnu Marma, Mohila Karbari, No-321 Mouza, Raykhali union, Kaptai Upazila, Rangamati, said many women are being deprived of SRHR and safety for their wrong ideas. Scientific and realistic attitude towards SRHR is needed, she added.

Chairing the event, Mr. Uching Thoai Choudhury, Headman, No-321 Mouza, Raykhali union, Kaptai Upazila, Rangamati, said “Community, traditional, religious leaders should take steps for women as they become aware of SRHR.”

He also thanked Hill Flower and its partners including the United Nations for implementing “Our Lives, Our Health, Our Futures project” in the area.

Mr. Mongnuching Marma, Raykhali Union Parisad member was present as the Chief guest at the event. where Priti Ranjan Tangchangya, Program coordinator, Our Lives, Our Health, Our Futures project, Hill Flower discussed several issues regarding SRHR.
