Heroic freedom fighters of Chitalmari Upazila in Bagerhat on Tuesday protested against the demolition of an under-construction sculpture of the Father of the Nation Bangabandhu Sheikh Mujibur Rahman in Kustia.
The protest rally was held on the Upazila Central Shaheed Minar premises at 10:30 am.
Leaders of various socio-cultural organizations including Chitalmari Upazila Parishad Upazila, Upazilla Awami League and its fraternity organisations participated in the protest rally expressing solidarity with the heroic freedom fighters.
The protest rally was presided over by Upazila Muktijoddha Commander and Upazila Nirbahi Officer(UNO) Md. Maruful Alam, among others Chitalmari Upazila Parishad Chairman Ashok Kumar Baral, President of Chitalmari Upazila Awami League Md. Babul Hossain Khan, Vice Chairman of Upazila Parisad Md. Mahatabuzzaman Mahatab, Vice President and former Deputy Commander Muktijoddha Sheikh Belal Hossain Upazila Youth Development Officer Md. Sohrab Hossain and other valiant freedom fighter leaders.
Sadar UP Chairman Sheikh Nizam Uddin, Upazila Awami Juba League Convener Mohammad Sheikh Nazrul Islam, President and Secretary of Chitalmari Upazila Press Club and other socio-cultural and political leaders were present at the protest meeting among others.
At the end of the protest rally, the heroic freedom fighters took an oath to preserve the honor of Father of the Nation Bangabandhu Sheikh Mujibur Rahman even at the cost of their lives once again.
